ABOUT

Margrét Seema Takyar is an Icelandic-Indian filmmaker and artist with a background in dance, theater and photography. Her work centers around womanhood, otherhood, breaking ideas about heteronormativity, the idea of (not) belonging and trying to find ways to give different bodies, voices and colors the frame.

She holds a BA in performing arts and art history from Middlesex University in London and an MFA in acting and directing from the New School for Drama in New York. She is a lifetime finalist at the Actors Studio in New York and has extensive classes under her belt with Gotham Writers Workshop NYC for screenwriting and is currently pursuing her MA in Creative Writing at the University in Iceland.

She credits most of her work to her constant curiosity to understand situations, decisions and actions.

"To capture a still shot, a single moment that will never come again is fascinating to me and I am equally obsessed with the idea to create moving images/stories from endless rewrites that f%#k with heteronormativity and status quo’s and can be re-played over and over without consequences."
